Blaise Pascal, the French mathematician and philosopher was born in 1623. At age eleven, he showed an amazing aptitude for math and science and later, in an effort to ease his father's endless calculations and recalculations of taxes owed and paid, Pascal constructed a mechanical calculator. He philosophized that "all men's miseries derive from not being able to sit in a quiet room alone."...
